Nestled in northwestern Italy (see map to right) is the province
of Tuscany or Toscano. We traveled there after 6 months of planning
to relax, see the country, eat good food and drink good wine. We planned an itinerary of 12 days in October 2005. We flew in and out of Rome from Newark, but other than that tried to avoid the large cities. We wanted an experience similar to that in the Luberon region of Provence some 7 years prior. Relaxed country touring and discovering the spots away from the mainstream tourists. Our home base was the beautiful Villa di Piazzano near the town of Cortona (made famous in Diane Lane's Under the Tuscan Sun). As you can see from this map, the Villa is actually near the village of Pergo. During the 15th century, it served as hunting lodge for Cardinal Passerini.
