Home HDTV Travel/Weather Smack's Blog Scuba Cycling Australia Cars Wine HDTV..high definition television. 18 different formats set by the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC). Gives standard a whole new meaning!! I purchased my first set in 2001 and am converting the household as budget allows.

I got the bug after looking at a stunning Runco plasma panel at the best A/V store in my area, Worldwide Stereo

I currently have a 16x9 direct-view set from Sony (KV34XBR800), a 32" Olevia LCD panel in the gym, a small Viewsonic LCD panel in the (N1700W) kitchen and 2 42" HD plasma panels (Hitachi 42HDT50 and the new Panny TH42PX-50U).

The Pannyplasma is tuned to HD with an over the air (OTA)/ DirecTV from Toshiba (DST-3100). Below is a current list of HD/digital channels that I can receive here in Doylestown.

Most of my video equipment and all of the associated audio purchase from my friends at Worldwide Stereo.

My second setup (the Hitachi panel) is tuned with a Home Theater PC (HTPC) from Cellar Cinemas as well as the Comcast DVR. It uses a PC tuner card, the HiPix DTV-200. Its software has been made open source and is spectacular, allowing on screen display of signal strength, D-VHS deck integration and screen captures. Examples below:

The third set (Sony) uses the HD Tivo (HR10-250). It has 2 ATSC and 2 HD sat tuners and the ability to record 2 programs and watch a third. It has 30 hours capacity  I waited 5 months for it but well worth the wait.

The fourth set and 5th sets (Viewsonic and Olevia) are tuned for network HD delivered via QAM over Comcast cable. I am currently using 3  Motorola  DCT6412 DVRs.

Though not quite the picture quality of a 1080i or 720p signal, HD sets do a great job with DVDs. Begun to build my collection of movies.
