On Monday, October 16th, we headed South to Orvieto in Umbria.

Actually Villa di Piazzano was only 10 km from the Umbrian border.  We left Mid-morning after Lisa ran and Barry rented a mountain bike. We arrived around lunch a began our education that NOTHING in Italy except for restaurants is open between 1 and ~4 PM.

As we got the magnificent Duomo at 12h30, the large wooden door closed in my place like at the beginning of a Maxwell Smart episode.

We had the only mediocre meal in Orvieto at a small cafeteria as we learned our second a third daily lessons of Italy:

bulletPanini = dry sandwich not a nice pressed, grilled lunch like here
bulletItalian Bread = tasteless, we reckon because they don't cook it with salt. We developed a habit of dumping salt on it thereafter

We then drove back into Tuscany to Montepulciano, the other beautiful wine town. Home of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and a beautiful place.

Dinner took us into Cortona into La Locanda nel loggiato, where I just found out Diane Lane filmed a scene. Click here for details.
